N.A.Y.C. Expedition to Uganda 2010

A team from Northamptonshire Association of Youth Clubs consisting of eleven young people and thier three leaders recently spent two weeks in Uganda based at Discovery Centre. The main purpose of the visit was to develop leadership skills amongst the young people. In order to achieve this the young people planned and ran a three day residential for twenty-five Ugandan children. As well as running this residential, the N.A.Y.C. team visited Murchison Falls National Park and other places of interest in Uganda.

Primary Schools' Sports Day

A very successful sports day was recently held at Discovery Centre with eight local primary schools participating in various activities including netball, volleyball and football. There were more than seven hundred students on site that day.

"Princesses" from Oasis visit D.C.

"Princesses" from the Oasis "Bambejja" *project in Kampala accompanied by a team from Aylesford Sports College Kent UK visited D.C. A great time was had by all !
 * “Bambejja” is a Luganda word meaning “Princesses” and the project has been so named as it is believed that these girls have enormous value and worth and it offers them an opportunity to live a life different to the one they were destined to.

Children of Grace

Discovery Centre was very pleased to welcome young people and staff from the "Children of Grace" organisation. The group was the largest to that point D.C. had hosted on a residential basis - 146 in all !!!

Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation

Discovery Centre was pleased to host a group of approximately thirty young people and staff members from various parts of Uganda arranged by the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDs Foundation. The group participated in a range of activities and very encouraging feedback was received from the group concerning the facilities and service offered by Discovery Centre.

Christian Writers' Workshop

Discovery Centre welcomed over 50 delegates who attended a four day Christian writers' workshop. This was led by Mr. and Mrs. Rudi Lack experienced writers who have published several books on leadership, mission and Christian devotion. This workshop has already been held in many nations including: Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
